Connecting with Your Loved One in Our Care

Your support is critical to the recovery and well-being of your loved one in treatment. With the approval of your loved one and their multi-disciplinary care team, we welcome you to participate in and support your loved one’s treatment plan. Parents, caregivers and legal guardians in good standing actively participate in their loved one’s treatment in partnership with the treatment team. We thank you in advance for your support in helping us maintain the safety of patients, their loved ones and our team members. We ask that you remain respectful with our staff and follow the visitation guidelines.

Visitation Guidelines

  • Only two adult guests over 18, may be admitted per day. There is no switching of those guests each visit – only two designated visitors per patient day.
  • Visitors must be put on the patient’s visitor approval list in order to visit.
  • Children of patients may be permitted to visit in addition to the two adult guests with prior approval of the treatment team.
  • All children under 18 must be accompanied by a non-patient adult and supervised at all times. Children will be expected to behave in a manner consistent with a healing environment.
  • Please arrive at least 30 minutes prior to visitation to allow time for check-in.
  • Entry will be denied to those arriving after visitation has begun.
  • When checking in with reception, visitors will be required to provide a government-issued identification.
  • Each patient has a unique numeric identification, and visitors must provide the patient ID for all visitation and phone calls.
  • Visitors must leave all personal belongings (phones, wallets, keys, smart watches, umbrellas, etc.) in their vehicle or in a reception area locker. The locker key will remain at the reception desk during visitation.
  • Each visitor must fill out a COVID Health and Travel screening, and a temperature will be taken. A person with elevated temperature or COVID symptoms will not be admitted for visitation. Visitors should avoid entering the clinical facility if they are sick, unless absolutely necessary. Visitors may be required to wear a mask at the discretion of the staff.
  • No firearms or weapons are permitted on hospital property. Our number one priority is to protect patients, visitors, volunteers, team members and physicians. To ensure the safety and health of all those who enter our hospital, all patients, visitors and vendors are required to go through weapons screening prior to visitation. Failure to consent to screening or inspection will result in denial of entry.
  • As defined in the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), a service animal is a dog or miniature horse that has been individually trained to do work or perform tasks for the benefit of an individual with a disability. Emotional support animals are not covered under the ADA and therefore not permitted.
  • If you or your loved one have been met with resistance when attempting to visit with loved ones, you may contact the TGH Behavioral Health patient advocate by calling 813-893-6300.

Patient Concerns and Advocacy

During your hospital stay, a concern or grievance may arise. In this instance, you or your representative may utilize a procedure to ensure that the matter is addressed and appropriately resolved. First, speak with your nurse, physician or social worker. If you are not satisfied with the outcome, ask to complete a Patient Advocate Request Form. Your request will be addressed in a timely manner by the facility’s patient advocate.
